Welcome to my fundraising page!
Boston Medical Center (BMC), New England’s largest safety-net hospital, is the centerpiece of Boston’s public health system. On any given day, BMC’s vision is for all individuals in Boston to have an equal opportunity to be healthy and achieve their full potential. That has never been more true than right now.
While the coronavirus (COVID-19) is a worldwide pandemic, it is the most socioeconomically disadvantaged among us who will suffer the greatest. This is especially the case for the large number of homeless patients BMC serves—those who may need extended hospitalization, may require quarantine or isolation or may need shelter to ensure safe social distancing. However, with shelters at capacity and outpatient clinics all but closed, homeless individuals (whether sick with COVID-19 or otherwise) have nowhere to turn.
True to its mission of “exceptional care, without exception,” Boston Medical Center is rising to the challenge. BMC is opening up two facilities in the Boston area to care for and safely quarantine our homeless patients with COVID-19 who otherwise would not have an appropriate place to isolate. (You can read about these efforts here and here.) These facilities will need supplies, staffing and resources. This is truly no small feat—the fact that BMC has been able to mobilize in short time is a testament to its steadfast commitment to achieving the best possible outcome for all patients.
If you are wondering how you can help at a time when we all might be feeling helpless, I ask that you please donate to this effort. As you know, having a place to heal and quarantine is paramount. Together, we can make sure shelter is available for those who need it most. Thank you!
Note: If you have questions about giving, or would like to give through a donor advised fund, please contact my colleague, Caroline Grassi at caroline.grassi@bmc.org or 978-771-8426.
