Welcome to my personal fundraising page for the Bill's Race 2020, in support of Boston Medical Center!
Help raise money and awareness for a rare disease that took the life of longtime ski instructor and my dad, Bill Cunningham. Before New Hampshire’s parks department took over the ski school, Cunningham and his wife, Carol, were part owners of the then Franconia Ski Schoolat Cannon Mountain.
Dad died on May 22, 2007, of a rare disease that causes proteins to deposit improperly into organs, leading to other diseases. And for him, the illness was misdiagnosed for several years, until it was too late. One of the reasons the event is being held is to raise awareness about Amyloid, and to help spread the word so people who may have kidney and liver problems caused by the rare disorder can press to have further testing done. Dad's initial testing rounds were negative and by the time we found out he did suffer from Amyloid, it was too late.
Bill's Race to beat Amyloid, which we now just call, "Race Day" is a day to remember and celebrate his life in the best way possible. We tune up our skis and drink some beer, look at pictures and talk to friends and ski as fast as we can. We are lucky enough that the community supports us and Dad and we are able to raise money to help push research further and to save lives.
Please consider dotating, or even better, sign up to race yourself! Anyday skiing is a great day!
